Mask variation of the Ogoni peoples, southeastern Nigeria. The original dates from the 19th and 20th centuries and is kept at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Masks of wild animals, in this case anthropomorphic ram, are used in agricultural rituals.The relief texture of the tree rings was obtained by burning softer layers of wood.
