Samurai jingasa hat

Techniques: metalwork, chasing, engraving, patination, rusting.
Dimensions: 45×14 cm.

Jingasa – a helmet in the form of a hat, used by various segments of the population from samurai to the common people. Japan, Edo period (1603-1868).
Made from 1.5mm thick steel. Diameter – 45 cm. Aged by natural rusting.

Consists of eight plates riveted together.
Copper snail.
Polishing with charcoal.
The hole at the top – tahen – is decorated with patterned rings made of copper and bronze – hachimanza.
